S. Kim Genovese, Ph.D, RN-BC

Associate Professor



Professor Genovese joined the faculty in the College of Nursing in August 2010. She teaches in the graduate program and serves as the coordinator for the cohort of graduate nursing students from India. Her expertise lies in the areas of nursing leadership, higher education development, women's health, maternal-infant nursing, particularly focused on high-risk obstetrics. Her most recent research focused on multigenerational nursing practice.

Her past professional experience, prior to joining our faculty, included serving as Executive Director of a not-for-profit nursing organization, Nursing 2000 North, Inc., Director and Associate Professor of Nursing at Purdue University North Central, Director of a perinatal women's chemical dependency center, and Program Director of a prenatal substance use prevention program. She worked in clinical practice at St. Anthony's Medical Center, Crown Point, and Methodist Hospital in the areas of obstetrics, pediatrics, pre-operative care, and emergency room. Her certification is in maternal-newborn nursing by National Certification Corporation. She has made numerous presntations at local, state, national and international venues. She has done many reviews, authored several book chapers, and co-authored a grant-sponsored children's book in English and Spanish.

Professor Genovese is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, Alpha chapter, AONE, IONE, NIONE, and is an executive board member of IONE. She is nursing advisory board member of Northwest Indiana AHEC, A.K. Smith Career Center, Bethel College, and Purdue University North Central. She has been a successful writer of several grants focused on nursing workforce development. Professor Genovese has been the recipient of an STT Research Award, Sasakawa Fellowship, a post-baccalaureate faculty fellowship grant from the Department of Health and Human Services, and a team member of a Rotary Group Study Exchange to Kyushu, Japan.
