Theresa A. Kessler, PhD.

Professor of Nursing



Professor Kessler joined the faculty in 1994. She teaches in the undergraduate and graduate programs.

Professor Kessler's clinical experiences are varied. She worked as a staff and charge nurse in the emergency room, surgical telemetry, oncology, and surgical/trauma. Her experiences also include working as a staff development coordinator with new graduates and experienced nurses. She has practiced in both a small county hospital and large urban teaching hospitals.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Professor Kessler has been a board member at the local level for ISNA, past president and counselor at the chapter level for Sigma Theta Tau International, and a volunteer through the Indiana Division of the American Cancer Society. Professor Kessler is certified as a Clinical Specialist in Adult Health Nursing by the ANCC. She was an item writer for APN certification through the ANCC. Professor Kessler currently is serving the ANCC as Chair of the Content Expert Panel on CNS in Adult Health Nursing and Chair of the Advanced Practice Board on Certification. Her research interests include cognitive appraisal and quality of life for individuals facing cancer and the health status of uninsured and underserved adults. She works closely with another CON faculty member supporting a program of undergraduate research. She has been published in a variety of journals including: Journal of Professional Nursing, Research in Nursing and Health, Nursing Leadership Forum, Oncology Nursing Forum, Journal of Community Health Nursing, and Journal of Nursing Education. Additionally, she serves as a site evaluator for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
