The Post Masters Family Nurse Practitioner program of study prepares nurses to  deliver primary care to clients across the life span and their families in a variety of  settings.  The emphasis of the program is on health promotion, prevention of illness,  maintenance of health status and management of acute episodic and stable chronic conditions. 

Admission Requirements

This program is available to students who have a Master of Science in Nursing Degree. Post-Masters FNP students must meet the admission & progression requirements of the University Graduate Catalog.

Students who have already earned the Master of Science in Nursing degree may complete the Post-Masters Family Nurse Practitioner program with an additional 32 credit hours.  The following courses BIO 590 or NUR 606; NUR 682, and NUR 686 may be waived if the applicant's transcript indicates that the required course or its equivalent has been taken.  A minimum of 20 credits must be taken in residence which includes the following courses; NUR 605, NUR 707, NUR 708, NUR 709, and NUR 710.  In addition, either BIO 590 or NUR 606 must be taken in residence.

The Post MSN/FNP program must be completed with at least a 3.00 grade point average for all course work done at the University.  Only one grade of B- or lower may be replaced by retaking a course.  No course may be repeated more than once. 

Students who successfully complete the program will be awarded a certificate of completion and be eligible to take the family nurse practitioner examination to become certified as a Nurse Practitioner.
