Distinguished Teaching Award

The Valparaiso University Alumni Association (VUAA) invites you to nominate a candidate for its annual Distinguished Teaching Award, which recognizes and encourages excellence in the art of teaching. The winner, who is recognized at Opening Convocation in the fall, receives $1000, as does his or her department.

Candidates must be tenured full-time members of the faculty who have completed at least one academic year at Valparaiso University. Previous winners are eligible if at least ten years have passed since their awards. Administrators, who may have faculty rank, are ineligible.

The principal selection criteria are:
1. Excellence as a Teacher
2. Effectiveness as an Academic Counselor
3. Extent of Service to and Positive Influence on Students in Extra-Curricular Settings

For all criteria, evidence of reinforcement of VU?s directional themes within each of the criteria is a plus. These themes are Academic Excellence, Church Relatedness, and Distinctive Education.
