Lead Contamination Problems
Issues of health and wellness were identified as critical for the Hilltop community and initially the goal was to attack a wide variety of health and wellness concerns. However, as the project evolved over the past year and a half it became clear that of all the current health related problems in the Neighborhood, the problem of toxic lead emerged as the most critical and the most urgent. It is also an issue that could be completely solved if available resources could be harnessed.
The lead hazard program is a comprehensive approach to correct the lead contamination problem in the Hilltop Neighborhood. The project will eventually lead to the complete eradication of the problem in the Neighborhood. There are already plans to replicate thi project in other areas of the City and Country.
The project has outline four clearly defined areas of need:
Increase the awareness of toxic lead problems in the Neighborhood
Increase testing for elevated blood lead levels in Neighborhood children
Develop a program for testing to identify areas of contamination and contaminated properties
Remove and/or repair existing lead contamination problems
