Welcome to the Northwest Indiana Chapter of the American
Meteorological Society and National Weather Association! Founded in
1919, the AMS promotes the development and dissemination of information
and education on the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic
sciences and the advancement of their professional applications.
Founded in 1975, the NWA is a professional organization which promotes
excellence in operational meteorology and other related activities in
meteorology among all of its members in several chapters
nationwide.
The Northwest Indiana Chapter was founded at Valparaiso
University in 1996. The chapter invites several guest speakers each year
as well as other activities to further the cause of the NWA. Since 2002,
the chapter has organized the Great Lakes Meteorology Conference which
is held in the spring. As of March 2007, the chapter was also
recognized as an AMS Student Chapter.
While the chapter primarily
serves the Valparaiso University community, membership is open to anyone
with a strong interest in meteorology. Annual dues are $15 and are due
by the third meeting of the year. Meetings are typically held once a
month and are located on the campus of Valparaiso University. For more
information about the NWA, the AMS or our chapter, contact any one of
the chapter officers.
