The hands-on workshop will focus on finding census data from American FactFinder. Participants will explore American Community Survey and other U.S. Census products, as well as learn how to compile detailed tables and make geographic comparisons. Other statistical tools from federal, state, and international sources will be demonstrated.

This workshop is designed specifically for new faculty and staff or individuals on campus who are new to the grantseeking process. In recent years, grantseeking has become very competitive, and at the same time, VU faculty and staff have become increasingly active in seeking external financial support for both individual research projects and campus-wide initiatives. Please plan to attend this workshop if you are interested in submitting proposals to foundations, corporations, or governmental agencies for funding.

Topics to be covered include:

• New faculty perpsectives and approaches
• Roles of the Lumina Center and OIA in the grantseeking process
• Grantseeking procedures, forms and resources
• Foundation Center Online Directory, with time used to explore this online resource available only in the Christopher Center.
