Faculty Scholars
In the forthcoming book "The Practice of Religious and Secular Humanisms," Christ College Professor Slavica Jakelić argues that the 20th-century social movements and the religious-secular alliances they helped engender can help illustrate the value of deep pluralism. These movements created political spaces of joint action in which activists could take seriously both what they shared and what separated them as citizens.
Valpo students, alumni, faculty, and staff will join with people from around the world to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation through several events throughout the year.
Valpo students receive a state-of-the-art STEM education within a liberal arts setting. With a new 55,000-square-foot laboratory building opening fall 2017, students can complement theoretical instruction with undergraduate research in innovative facilities, as early as freshman year.
Arts and Culture
With an expansive permanent collection, the Brauer Museum of Art offers a unique opportunity to view world-class art in Northwest Indiana. Spring exhibitions feature original artwork by Valparaiso University students as well as works by Jon Hook, Andrea Peterson, and Ernst Schwidder.
Across campus, 30 percent of Valpo faculty members are also alumni. Within the College of Engineering, Luke Venstrom ’07, Ph.D., Reva Johnson ’09, Ph.D., and Daniel Blood ’10, Ph.D., are colleagues in the mechanical engineering department. While they teach different courses, each of them understands the unique aspects of a Valpo education that is only gained by being a Valpo graduate.
