VU Center for the Arts
“Indiana Impressionism from the Robert and Ellie Haan Collection” and “Works from the Brauer Museum of Art’s Permanent Collection” will be displayed. Admission is free.

2009 VU Alumni Association Christmas Ornament
The 2009 VUAA ornament will feature the Chapel Angel, one of the most recognizable images from the stained glass windows. Reserve yours on the attached registration form and pick it up at registration. Ornaments from some previous years will be available for purchase at registration.

New Discoveries in Astronomy

Lecture presented by Shawn Slavin, interim department head and associate professor of physics and astronomy at Purdue University Calumet.

Astronomical Observatory Open House
Located behind Meier Hall and Gellersen Center
Hosted by Bruce Hrivnak, professor of physics and astronomy. In the event of cloudy or inclement weather, an indoor planetarium show will be featured in Neils Science Center, Room 224. Call 219.464.5202 or visit physics.valpo.edu/astronomy/obsOpenHouse.html after 5 p.m. that evening to ensure that the observatory is open.

SARA Observatory Remote Observation Session
Neils Science Center, Room 224
Valpo is a member of the Southeastern Association for Research in Astronomy (SARA), a consortium of 10 universities that operates a 36-inch telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona. Todd Hillwig, assistant professor of physics and astronomy, will demonstrate the process of operating the telescope live from 1,500 miles away. Real-time images taken with the telescope will be displayed.

VU’s famous Belgian waffles are usually served only on Sunday mornings, but will be offered on Saturday especially for you. “The Story of the Chapel Windows”
Chapel of the Resurrection
There is more to the stained glass than just colors and designs. Come and hear the story told in the windows of the Chapel of the Resurrection. Learn their history and discover their true meaning with Joseph Cunningham, university pastor and dean of the Chapel of the Resurrection.

“Study Abroad—What Parents Need to Know”

Studying abroad can be exciting for your student, but you may have a lot of questions about sending your child overseas. Come hear about VU’s study abroad opportunities and learn all the steps from initial planning to your student’s return home. Presented by Julie Maddox ’04, ’05 M.S., director of study abroad programs.

“Harre Union—Behind the Scenes”

Opened in January 2009, the Harre Union is the newest building on campus and has already changed the student experience. Learn about all that the union has to offer. See where your students eat their meals, study for finals, and meet with their student groups. Presented by Larry Mosher, director of the Harre Union, and staff.

Tailgate Party
Food and beverages will be available for purchase and will be located in the tent on the east side of the Athletics-Recreation Center. (Rain location is inside the ARC.) Enjoy a visit by the VU Crusader, along with the Crusaderettes, cheerleaders and VU Pepband. The Student Alumni Association will take your photo with the Crusader, will hand out brown and gold shakers, and will help you display your Valpo spirit with a temporary tattoo or face art. Meal cards accepted. Please register on the attached form.

The Virtual Nursing Learning Center will be featured, with students demonstrating the SimBaby, SimMan, and other functions of simulation technology in nursing education.

Communication students in this newly renovated facility will give demonstrations on how video is digitally edited.

The Internship Program and Assessment Center will be featured. Families will have the opportunity to hear student reflections on a completed internship and observe an Assessment Center simulation.

Come chat with Dean Kraig Olejniczak ’87 and see a demonstration of the VisBox, Valpo’s scientific visualization lab.

Music provided by Valparaiso University student musicians. Guest speaker will be Laura Dooley, professor of law and recipient of the 2009 VU Alumni Association Distinguished Teaching Award. Registration required. $15 per person. Limited space available. Please note on your registration form if your student is performing in the evening concert.

The Valparaiso University Chamber Concert Band, conducted by Jeffrey Doebler ’87 Mus.M., associate professor of music, will perform. Admission is free, but please register.

This fun, fast-paced improvisational comedy show is sponsored by Union
