Sports Management

INTERNSHIP and SENIOR PROJECT

The senior project and internship are considered by sports management majors to be the most rewarding of their educational experiences. These opportunities give students valuable "hands-on" experience in many different management situations within the sporting environment. Recently, students have interned with professional teams (Orlando Magic, South Bend Silverhawks, Milwaukee Brewers, Indianapolis Ice, Cleveland Cavaliers, Pittsburgh Penguins and more), sports agents, athletic directors, directors of sports marketing and promotions, directors of sports information, athletic conference offices, university intramurals and recreation sports, Boys and Girls clubs, sports ministry, sports clubs, parks and recreation departments, and fitness centers. There are unlimited internship opportunities available to students. All that is required is an interest and a willingness to participate in a rewarding venture.

The senior project allows students an opportunity to fully investigate an area of sport that is of personal interest. Topics and projects are individually chosen and taught on an independent basis. This individualized format ensures that students will enjoy their project, and succeed in gaining invaluable insight into their professional area.

Either the senior project or internship must be an off-campus experience. This requirement helps students develop contacts within their preofessional field and encourages networking; two very important components of business life.
