K-12 CURRICULUM

Physical Education Teacher Education Major:All Levels (Early/Middle Childhood, Middle Level, Adolescence/Youth Adult)

Students who plan to teach in the elementary or secondary schools with a major or minor in Physical Education Teacher Education must also complete a complementary major in secondary education. Students completing this degree will be certified to teach physical education K-12 and health 7-12.

This teaching major requires a minimum or 51 credit hours.

Students must also pass all portions of the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) and gain formal admission into the Teacher Education program in the Education Department.

  • PE 190 First Aid, Health & Safety 2 cr
  • PE 230 Seminar in Health 3 cr
  • PE 231 Substance Abuse & Health 3 cr
  • PE 240 Phil., Hist., & Org. Perspectives in Physical Education 3 cr
  • PE 270 Teaching Swimming 2 cr
  • PE 289 Teaching Physical Education in the Elementary School 3 cr
  • PE 315 Teaching of Team Sports 3 cr
  • PE 325 Teaching Individual & Dual Sports 3 cr
  • PE 360 Adapted Physical Education 3 cr
  • PE 370 Kinesiology 3 cr
  • PE 387 Fitness Assessment & Exercise Presciption 3 cr
  • PE 389 Methods of Teaching Health 3 cr
  • PE 410 Measurement & Evaluation in Physical Education 3 cr
  • PE 440 Exercise Physiology 3 cr
  • PE 489 (ED 489) The Teaching of Physical Education 3 cr

Other Requirements Include:

  • BIO205 Fundamental Nutrition 3 cr, OR
  • PE 191 1st Aid Inst. Certif.  1 cr,  or PE 192 Sport First Aid 1 cr

The complementary major in Secondary Education for Physical Education Teacher Education must include:

 ED 203, 204, 305, 370, 385, 459, 460, 485 and SPED 440
