FALL ASTRONOMY DAY EVENTS INFORMATION AND REGISTRATION
Fall Astronomy Day, Saturday, October 3, 2009

In celebration of the International Year of Astronomy 2009.

Schedule

3:00 – 5:00pm: Hands-on astronomy activities for students in grades 5 – 9. Registration is required (see below)

     Viewing the Sun through a solar telescope (if clear)

     Touring the Fall night sky in the VU planetarium

     Building your own Galileoscope (a 2-inch refracting telescope)

        Students will construct and take home their own Galileoscope (mounts or tripods are

        not provided.  More information will be sent to registrants).

        OPEN TO THE FIRST 50 REGISTRANTS!

This event is offered FREE thanks to generous support from the Indiana Space Grant Consortium.

 7:30 – 8:30 pm: Sidewalk Astronomy at Neils Science Center – open to the public

Gather on the south side of Neils Science Center (just outside the main doors to the lobby) to look through a collection of portable telescopes at various astronomical objects. Targets will include the Moon and Jupiter, which Galileo observed with his telescope precisely 400 years ago!  Students who participated in the afternoon activity are welcome to bring their Galileoscopes.  Astronomy faculty and students will be on hand to answer questions.
