"Blond Girls Can't Learn Physics"

Stacy McCormack, Penn High School, 2011 Indiana Teacher of the Year

At six years old, Stacy McCormack told her entire family that one day she wouldbecome a science teacher. Trained as a high school chemistry teacher, she wasfearful of making the transition to teaching physics because of her own “fear ofphysics”. One professor in particular made it especially awkward when heremarked, “Because you're a girl and have blond hair, you'll never understandphysics.” Stacy has designed a high school physics class at Penn High Schoolthat is lab-driven and student-centered. Now a published author, Stacy sharesher inexpensively created labs in a book titled “Teacher FriendlyPhysics”. Amazingly, each year hundreds of students now find success inphysics under the leadership of a blond girl.
