Strategies for Academic Success Course (GS100)

FAll 2013: Register Now for New 7-Week Classes

Classes Start October 21 and End December 11

GS-100-K Mon/Wed 8:00-8:50 a.m.

GS-100-L Mon/Wed 9:00-9:50 a.m.

If you want to register for GS-100, please take the following steps before October 21:

1) Fill out a drop/add card with your name, ID and the course section you want. ONLY put GS-100 on the card.  (If there are other courses that you need to drop or add, use a separate card and turn it in directly to the Office of the Registrar after getting required signatures.)

2) Get your adviser’s signature on the card.

3) Take the card to Tricia White in the Academic Success Center (library Room 100A, lower level).  Leave the card under the door if no one is available.

4) After you leave your card, Tricia White will email you a status update about your registration.

Strategies for Academic Success is a seminar designed for students who want to enhance their academic achievement by strengthening their learning strategies and study skills.  Through focused discussion on course materials, peer interaction, skill development, self-assessment, visits to campus resources, and other activities, students will identify the best practices for achieving their college goals.  Freshman students may find the fall course particularly helpful with adjustment challenges as they make the transition to college life.

General Course Information:

  • GS-100 is a 1-credit course that meets for one 50-minute class session per week.
  • Beginning Fall 2013:  Class meets for a total of 14 sessions, plus students are required to complete 4 hours outside of class to conduct campus resource visits. 
  • Class size is small, which allows for group discussion and peer interaction in a collaborative learning environment.
  • Textbook:  Student Success in College:  Doing what works (1st Ed.) by C. Harrington
