Assistant Provost for International Affairs and Associate Professor of Economics

As assistant provost for international affairs, Jaishankar Raman provides leadership, oversight, and support in the ongoing design and implementation of the University’s internationalization strategy. He is responsible for overseeing existing relationships with global partners, exploring collaborations with new partners around the world, coordinating academic and non-academic programs for international students to ensure their success, and coordinating international programs for all students on campus. He also works in close collaboration with Enrollment Management to develop, strengthen, and systematize international recruitment, application, and enrollment processes.

Associate Professor Raman has served as Director of Special International Initiatives since July 2011. He received Valpo’s prestigious Caterpillar Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2009 and was awarded the Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Teaching by the University of Notre Dame in 1995. Professor Raman joined the Valparaiso University faculty in 1997.

His research interests include development economics, international trade, regional economics, economic liberalization, Indian higher education, and pedagogy in economics.
