Biography

Dr. Nelson joined the staff in 1987 and serves as Associate Professor of Psychology and a member of the Chinese-Japanese Studies faculty. Dr. Nelson received his training as a clinical psychologist with interests in the fields of neuropsychology and cross-cultural psychology. He is a licensed psychologist in the State of Indiana. His current research interests are focused on theoretical issues in psychology, as well as the relationship between psychology and religion.  He teaches courses in abnormal psychology at the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as classes in psychology and religion, adult development, and human neuropsychology. He has served as Director of Graduate Counseling Programs, has directed the VU China study program, and has served as a visiting scholar at UCLA and the Fuller Graduate School of Psychology in California. Dr. Nelson, his wife Jeanne Brown and his children Anthony and Teresa enjoy family time as well as traveling in the US and overseas.
