Elizabeth Wuerffel, MFA, assistant professor of art, collaborated with Fulbright Scholar and alumnus Saddam Al-Zubaidi and graduate student Sarhang Sherwany to produce “Kawergosk: Home Made of Cloth,” a short documentary that made its public debut at the Redlands Film and Beer Festival in Redlands, Calif. The film, which won the audience choice award, was filmed in the Kurdish Region of Iraq and gives entrance to the struggles many of the 250,000 Syrian refugees in the Kurdish Region of Iraq experience, with stories and depiction of camp life illustrating both the specific history of Syrian Kurds and common needs of refugees. The film also received honorable mention at the Irvine International Film Festival and is an official selection at Chicago’s 2016 Peace on Earth Film Festival.
