Every resident must check out of their room. There are two methods of checking out of their rooms students may choose.
Traditional Check-Out Method: Students make an appointment in advance to meet with a member of their Residence hall staff to review the room together. Staff will conduct an inspection of the room and record their findings on the student's room condition report. The student will sign and receive a copy of this document. Student will then leave their keys with the staff member and depart for home. PLEASE NOTE: All personal belongings must be removed and your half of the room must be cleaned before your scheduled checkout time.
Express Check-Out Method: In this method, the student receives an envelope that they will use to place there room keys. The envelop is returned to the building's drop off location prior to their departure from campus. An inspection of the room is still conducted, but with this method the stuent is waiving their right to be present during the inspection.
In both methods, student have the right to appeal any damage charges that they feel are inaccurate.
Residence Hall students may report their preference to their RA or Desk Attendant (DA) at the front desk of each building.
UPTOWN EAST Residents may do this by completing this online form. CLICK HERE TO COMPLETE THE FORM.
Before checking out, you must dismantle and remove all lofts and custom built shelving, reassemble beds, and return all room furniture to its original configuration. Clarify the exact room set up with your RA. Bring all trash, boxes, wood, etc. to the dumpster's. Do not leave it in the hallways, bathroom, stairwells, etc. Students leaving items in the hallway will be fined.
An RLC will complete a follow-up inspection of your room after your departure and will make a final decision regarding any billing for damages and/or missing items, as well as any charges for improper checkout. Any charges will be outlined in a letter that will be sent to you in June.
Limited storage is available for residents who are international students or who live 500 miles or more from the University. Everything stored must be in a plastic container. Space is limited, so items entering storage are at the discretion of the building RLC. Items not allowed in storage include, but are not limited to couches, microfridge units, and televisions. Any possessions stored on university premises are stored at the student's risk. The university cannot guarantee their safety nor does the university take any financial responsibility for the personal property of students. Please note that storage is NOT available in Uptown East Apartments.
All items currently in hall storage areas must be removed no later than 9:00 pm on Wednesday, May 8th. Residents wishing to move items INTO storage can do so during the posted hours in their residence hall. Staff will be available during posted times to assist with this process. Items are to be stored in the hall in which you will live in the Fall of 2013. If you will not be living on campus in the fall, you cannot move items into hall storage areas.

24-HOUR QUIET HOURS WILL BEGIN AT 10:00 P.M. ON TUESDAY, MAY 7th. Please show consideration and respect for residents who need a quiet study atmosphere while preparing for final exams. During the hours of 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. each evening, quiet hours will be relaxed in order for students to disassemble lofts and complete other noisy moving tasks. Please observe common courtesy during these hours, as others will be studying for their exams. A $5.00 fine will be assessed and possible judicial referral for violations of quiet hours during finals week.
Finally, the end of the year tends to bring an increase in theft from student rooms. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR ROOM UNLOCKED AT ANY TIME AND DO NOT LEAVE ANY TEXTBOOKS UNATTENDED! Textbooks are like cash and just as attractive to steal!
If you have any questions about the closing process, please see your RA or RLC.
