ROOM SELECTION

The Room Selection Process for Spring 2010 Semester

Incoming students for semester Spring 2010 should review the University Housing Policy. The University housing policy requires all freshman, sophomore, and junior students to live in University-operated residence halls.

Students requiring housing should complete a Housing Agreement Form and return it to the Office of Residential Life. This form should be received no later than 5:00 p.m. CDT, Friday, November 13 2008. If you have difficulty downloading the Housing Agreement Form please feel free to contact our office so we may fax you a copy.

If you do not currently have an active housing deposit on file, please include a $100 housing deposit with your Housing Agreement.  If you are unable to send the deposit, please arrange for a parent, guardian or friend to do so by the deadline.  The University Finance Office cannot bill your account for the deposit.  You may also make the deposit with a credit card by contacting Student Accounts at 219-464-5101.

Students returning from off-campus programs will be assigned housing based on student preference, class standing, and location availability. Class standing for housing policy and room assignments is determined according to a student’s number of total earned credits, not semesters of attendance and/or anticipated graduation date.

Other Housing Options:

Students returning from off-campus programs may also be interested in a unique initiative offered by the Office of Residential Life. The Global Leaders Community (GLC) is open to both men and women, who will live in an intentional community in the suite-style 1st floor rooms of Brandt Hall.  It is designed to enhance their experience of community and their understanding of the contributions of other cultures to a diverse and ever-changing world.

The GLC will allow participants to:

  • Cultivate understanding and appreciation for the interconnected world as it pertains to their individual career planning and decision making.
  • Foster a sense of community that values global diversity and seeks opportunities for meaningful exploration of different cultural ideas and experiences.
  • Craft and develop practical leadership skills through the planning, promotion and implementation of various programs and projects.  These could include informational, orientation and re-entry sessions for students planning to attend or return from study abroad programs, international dinners, presentations by local experts that accentuate the appreciation of the history, culture and contributions for their country of choice, and much, much more!
  • Request an international roommate and live in close proximity to students from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, students that have studied abroad and students that plan to study abroad

For more information about the Global Leaders Community please contact Kevin Malburg at Kevin.Malburg@valpo.edu.

Sorority Housing:

Female students who wish to live in their sorority corridor should indicate which sorority they are a member of on the Housing Agreement Form . (Please write the sorority name in the preferences section)

Exemption and Off-Campus Housing:

If you are going to be eligible to live off campus next semester, as defined by the University Housing Policy, then you do not have to submit any forms to our office.

Exceptions to the housing requirements are made for veterans, students living with a parent or legal guardian and commuting from home, and sophomore and junior men who live in approved fraternity housing. Students seeking an exemption must complete an Application for Housing Policy Exemption.
