The Church and Environmental Responsibility Although a common perception among Christians and non-Christians alike is that the Bible and Christian theology show little concern for our relationship to nature and have perhaps even contributed to its exploitation, many churches and theologians across liberal and conservative lines are now critically retrieving elements of the Christian tradition that encourage respect for the natural world and environmental responsibility. There is growing scholarly literature on Christianity and environmental ethics, and many churches and ecumenical organizations are creating effective environmental programs.
