While she has endless memories of her time at Valparaiso University, Amanda Werling’s defining moment took place in Tanzania, where she volunteered at a regional hospital during the summer break before her junior year.

It was an opportunity to put to use the skills she has been learning as a nursing major and also to affirm the role of service in her life.

“It allowed me to discover how important service really is to me,” Amanda says. “I want to continue to develop that aspect during my time at Valpo and after I graduate.”

Valpo students know the value of becoming a global citizen. Learning about other cultures expands your worldview and prepares you for your future.

At Valpo, there are many opportunities for cultural exchange, such as studying abroad in Europe, Asia, or Central America. On campus, you can get to know international students and share customs and traditions from different cultures.

And, like Amanda, you may choose to participate in an international service project, using the skills you learn at Valpo to make a difference in the lives of others.

“The College of Nursing is preparing me with a great foundation for the future by educating me in all aspects of life,” Amanda says.
