Valparaiso University’s Chapel of the Resurrection, the heart of spiritual life on campus and a symbol of the creative relationship between faith and learning at Valpo, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its dedication during the 2009-2010 academic year.
A host of activities, including special worship services, performances by world-renowned music ensembles and lectures examining faith in society will take place throughout the year to commemorate the 1959 dedication of the chapel.
“This celebration is a wonderful opportunity to give thanks to God for a remarkable building that has been the place of worship and venue for extraordinary events for the past 50 years,” said Rev. Joseph Cunningham, university pastor.
A special 50th Anniversary Worship Service will take place Sunday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. for members of the campus community, alumni and the public. The worship service will be followed by a dedication encore of the Reddel Memorial Organ at 3 p.m. and a vespers service featuring the music of J.S. Bach at 5 p.m.
