Second Communiversity Day celebrates Northwest Indiana relationship

Valpo students participate in the world record attempt at Communiversity Day 2010.

Aug.19, 2011 – Valparaiso University invites the Northwest Indiana community to celebrate the second year of a new tradition — Communiversity Day, on Saturday, Sept. 3.

After a successful first year, Communiversity Day has returned, providing an opportunity to offer thanks to the broader community, as well as Valpo students, faculty, staff and alumni for their years of care and support. Events for the day include the Valpo vs. Franklin football game, the Valpo Volleybrawl, a pregame tailgate barbecue, fun games and family-friendly activities.

Buckman Page, a band made up of Valpo alumni, will be the evening’s featured live music. The performance will begin at 4 p.m.

Keeping with Valparaiso University’s commitment to service, attendees of the event are also invited to “Build a Reading Buddy” and donate teddy bears for the I Need A Hug program. I Need A Hug is a United Way program supported by Valpo’s softball team, which promotes local efforts to encourage elementary school children to read.

Also just prior to the football game, Valpo invites the crowd to join in setting a world record. The objective is to symbolize togetherness in the Valparaiso community by attempting a world record for the most people standing simultaneously with arms linked.

The football game is under the lights at 7 p.m. The volleyball tournament includes a Valpo-Evansville contest at 4:30 p.m.

The evening will conclude with a postgame fireworks show, sponsored by McDonald’s. More details about Communiversity Day and online ticket purchasing are available at valpo.edu/communiversity.
