Valpo students converge on Union to perform Lady Gaga lip dub

To celebrate the end of the year – and to have some fun in the Valpo tradition – more than 80 Valparaiso University students gathered in the Harre Union to sing, dance and lip sync in a “lip dub” performance to music from Lady Gaga’s hit song “Just Dance.”

“It was chaotic, but a lot of fun,” said Alyssa Brindley, a sophomore nursing major. “It was great to see people from Valpo come together to show the world that we have fun here.”

A lip dub is a type of video that combines lip syncing and audio dubbing to make a music video, and is made by a group of people lip synching while listening to a song or any recorded audio. The audio is then dubbed over in post production editing with the original audio of the song.

“A little bit of creativity, and the right mix of people led to a successful performance,” said Taylor Deloye, a junior marketing major. “Just Dance was the perfect song with catchy lyrics, and a good beat that was easy to move to.”

William Liu, a digital media graduate student and photographer for the University, was producer for the video.

“It was exhausting to put this together,” said Liu, who worked with members of the Integrated Marketing and Communications student division for weeks in advance to plan, recruit cast members, and rehearse.

“It was a lot of hard work and collaboration among the students, but in the end we are happy with the result.”

Liu said that next year, he hopes to create a similar “lip dub,” hopefully with an even larger student cast.
