Dec. 7, 2010 – Joyful carols rang through the Chapel of the
Resurrection during Valparaiso University’s annual Christmas Concert on Dec. 3
and 4, with more than 1,000 students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members
gathering each night to celebrate the magic and mystery of the Advent season.
A Northwest Indiana holiday tradition for more than 80
years, audience members and Valpo’s student musicians opened the festive
concert with “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.” Ninety minutes later, after
Valpo’s choral and instrumental ensembles performed more than a dozen Christmas
favorites such as Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker,” the concert concluded with
the audience participating in a resounding arrangement of “O Come, All Ye
Faithful.” “All the emotions present during the Christmas season – the
celebration of Christ’s birth, the joy of spending time with loved ones, the
stillness of a peaceful winter night – are expressed during Valpo’s Christmas
Concert,” said Christopher M. Cock, Duesenberg chair in Lutheran music and
director of the Valpo Chorale.
