VuVox Fall Concert

VuVox creates a cappella version of Valpo fight song

Led by members of VuVox, Valparaiso University’s men’s a cappella group, a new rendition of Valpo’s fight song went from an idea to completion within just a few weeks this fall.

“It was nice to be a part of the movement to bring back the fight song,” said VuVox president Justin Thompson-Gee, a senior meteorology major from Poughkeepsie, N.Y. “The song has not been a big part of student life in recent years, and we felt that bringing some new life to it would be good, especially with a cappella music since it’s been rising in popularity recently.”

Thompson-Gee and the six other VuVox members worked with the Valpo pep band to arrange the a cappella piece, and within two weeks the group was in the WVUR studio recording the new version of the song. The group kept the words the same, but added a new arrangement along with the a cappella sound.

“We really hope that the fight song becomes more popular with the students again,” said Thompson-Gee, who said that VuVox will also be integrating the new song into their performances on campus throughout the year.

Check out the VuVox this Friday, October 21 for their Fall Concert! The concert will be held in the Harre Union Ballroom from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
