Led by members of VuVox, Valparaiso University’s men’s a cappella group, a new rendition of Valpo’s fight song went from an idea to
completion within just a few weeks this fall. “It was nice to be a part of the movement to bring back the fight song,” said VuVox president Justin Thompson-Gee, a senior meteorology
major from Poughkeepsie, N.Y. “The song has not been a big part of student life
in recent years, and we felt that bringing some new life to it would be good, especially
with a cappella music since it’s been rising in popularity recently.” Thompson-Gee and the six other VuVox members worked with the
Valpo pep band to arrange the a cappella piece, and within two weeks the group
was in the WVUR studio recording the new version of the song. The group kept
the words the same, but added a new arrangement along with the a cappella sound. “We really hope that the fight song becomes more popular
with the students again,” said Thompson-Gee, who said that VuVox will also be
integrating the new song into their performances on campus throughout the year.VuVox creates a cappella version of Valpo fight song
