Activities
The Chemistry Club hosts and participates in a number of activities every year, which we have termed "traditional events" simply because they occur on a regular basis. All of these events are open to all VU chemistry majors, minors, and those just interested in chemistry, and rarely at any cost to you. Here is a sample of the things we like to do:
|
General meetings always come with lunch, usually pizza. Here we announce upcoming events and hold elections. |

Our annual Halloween party is always a ton of fun. Most people come in costume, many in chemistry-related gear. Activites vary from year to year, but have included decorating pumpkins as our professors, Molecular Monopoly, family feud, and last but not least, Dr. Bradley's (in)famous exothermic chili! |
|
October 23rd (10-23) is a special day for those who love chemistry. To celebrate Avogadro's number, we chalk the sidewalks surrounding the science building and ring the victory bell at 6:02 pm. |

Chemistry in the Schools (CITS) is an outreach program that puts chemistry club members into 5th grade classrooms several times a semester for hour long demonstrations of fun and exciting chemistry! |

What is a regressive dinner? Think progressive, and reverse it. Three professors invite us to their houses and cook for us, in progressive dinner style. But here's the catch! We start with dessert, travel to the main dish, and finish the evening with appetizers. |

We all spend much of our time in Neils Science Center, so why not spend the night? Once a year, we camp out in the building, watch movies in the big auditorium, play Twister and board games, and eat pizza and snacks all night long. Those who survive the whole night even enjoy breakfast as the sun comes up over campus. |
|
Many of our graduates go on to grad school after graduation from VU. To get a preview of what graduate work in chemistry is like, and what to look for when choosing a school, we travel to nearby grad schools one to two times per year. |

Each fall and spring, the three sciences "living" in Neils Science Center (biology, chemistry, and physics) get together and hold a picnic at a nearby park. It's a chance to play softball and volleyball with your professors, swing on the monkey bars with their children, or simply sit along picnic tables full of conversation. |
