German Club ByLaws
1. Statement of Purpose: The purpose of the German Club is to provide an organization of community as well as German-related activities for those on campus who are interested or are a part of the German language and culture. It's main purpose is to provide a German speaking environment in order for students to practice speaking in German, and to become more comfortable with and better acclimated to the language.
2. Membership: Anyone who is a member of Valparaiso University and has an interest in the German language or culture may become a member of the German Club. Members need not to be enrolled in a German class to participate.
Membership will be on the basis of individual merit, free from discrimination because of race, gender, national origin, or disability.
Additionally, anyone is welcome to attend German Club events, whether or not they attend regularly scheduled meetings.
3. Structure: The German Club is an informal organization. It meets once a week for planing meetings, and when additional activities are planned.
The German Club is under the advisory of the head of the German Department, but also has elected officers to run the Club. Elected officers include two (2) co-presidents, one (1) activities coordinator, who's jobs are to plan activities and keep the members informed about meetings and events; one (1) secretary, who keeps minutes of the weekly meetings; one (1) treasurer, who handles the financial record keeping of the club; one (1) historian, who keeps a scrapbook of events; and one (1) webmaster, who managers the club's website. The Officers are elected in the spring of every year, according to a 2/3-majority vote.
4. Amending: the Constition This constitution may be amended. Two thirds of the members present at the meeting must agree on this amendment.
