After you become an associate member, our
chapter will soon conduct a Big Brother - Little Brother ceremony.
The purpose of this ceremony is to match each associate with an initiated
member. That initiated member will be the associate's "Big Brother" and assist
in mentoring and educating the associate member about our fraternity and other
aspects of Greek life. We have an officer within our chapter whose sole function
is educating our membership through a Fraternity Education program. That officer
will oversee the process with the assistance of a Big Brother-Little Brother
coordinator to see to it that every associate member receives a proper fraternal
education.
Call to Brotherhood. After experiencing the
Associate Member Ceremony, new associate members are exposed to the Call to
Brotherhood Lambda Chi Alphas associate member education program and training
curriculum. Over the course of the eight weeks, they learn about Lambda Chi
Alpha, its history, how we are organized, how we function as a group, how we
govern ourselves, how we develop leaders for our chapter, our campus, and our
country, and, most importantly, how we develop brotherhood. The Call to
Brotherhood is designed to provide associate members with a foundation of
conceptual understandings and practical skills facilitating developmental growth
as men and contributing brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha.
Eight-to-ten weeks
after you are associated, you will be brought up before the membership a second
time in order for it to vote on whether you will be initiated. The membership
will consider each associate's participation with and representation of the
chapter, overall morale and excitement about Lambda Chi Alpha, and other things,
including academic and financial responsibility. Upon receiving the necessary
vote, the associate will be allowed to participate in our fraternity's
initiation ritual and thereafter become an initiated brother once he has
successfully completed the initiation ritual. Lambda Chi Alpha's initiation
ritual is universally used among all chapters and has been in existence,
virtually unchanged, since 1913.
