Officers

2023-2024 Officers:

President: Noah Lang, noah.lang@valpo.edu

Noah Lang is a senior meteorology and mathematics major and humanities minor from Granger, Indiana. In fact, he discovered meteorology through mathematics, having always enjoyed the latter subject in high school. While researching viable careers involving mathematics, he found ‘meteorologist’ as an option, and was interested in pursuing the subject after further research. On Valpo’s campus, Noah’s involved in Christ College, the VU Storm Intercept Team, Chi Epsilon Pi, and Residential Life through his position as an RA.  He also enjoys acting in theatre productions, playing board/card games, and spending time with his friends and family.

Vice President: Katarina Dudkowski, katarina.dudkowski@valpo.edu

Katarina Dudkowski is a junior data science major with minors in meteorology as well as logistics and supply chain management from Wentzville, Missouri. She has always enjoyed meteorology but found that a data science major would be more useful to a future career in emergency management. On campus, Kat is on two different e-boards: AMS/NWA Vice-Presedent and Valparaiso Emergency Management Organization Vice-President. She is also an active member of Valparaiso University’s Storm Intercept Team. Last year she helped plan and organize the MET Banquet and the Great Lakes Meteorology Conference. She also works on campus at the ARC and helps to set up, run, manage, and tear down Valparaiso University sporting events. When Kat is not out around campus she can be found with her friends or hanging out with her roommate that is now a part of her family!

Secretary: Ben Chappey, ben.chappey@valpo.edu

Ben Chappey is a junior meteorology major from Hammond, Indiana. He’s looking to pursue a math minor in the near future. Ben is also an ARA in Alumni Hall this year. He loves intense storms and enjoys participating in the Valparaiso University Storm Intercept Team. He’s been interested in Meteorology for a long time, but more recently his inspiration was the great Tom Skilling. He plans to go into forecasting in the future and attend graduate school after Valpo. He enjoys spending time with friends, playing games and loves riding his bike. He also loves nature and spending time outdoors, with his favorite season being summer. A fun fact about Ben is that he is left-handed!

Treasurer: Gabe Haberling, gabe.haberling@valpo.edu

Gabe Haberling, from Saint John, Indiana, is a Valparaiso University Senior Meteorology major with a Mathematics Minor.  He enjoys Meteorology as one of his studies, but he also enjoys learning more about aviation on the side.  He discovered meteorology by recalling a thunderstorm that passed through his town. This sparked his interest in meteorology.  Gabe is a member of the Valpo Storm Intercept Team, VUTV, and other activities.  He also likes to spend time with his friends and family, go plane spotting at airports, watch air and water shows, and watch thunderstorms.

Sophomore Social ChairClaire Riva, claire.riva@valpo.edu

Claire Riva is a sophomore meteorology major from Lafayette, Indiana. She became interested in meteorology through her middle school teacher who encouraged her to find a science topic she felt passionate about for her school project. She quickly fell in love with the science and after watching the local meteorologist she knew she wanted that as her future career. This year she is an ambassador in admissions (AIA), a lab aide for the meteorology department, a member of the Chi Omega sorority, involved with the EPIC research program, and a Christ College student. Some of her favorite things to do include going to concerts/movies, hanging out with her family, reading, watching the Detroit Lions football games, and being an avid Swiftie with her twin sister!

Faculty Adviser: Craig Clark

Craig is a longtime Meteorology professor with an affinity for snow, music, barbecue potato chips, and Christmas specials. He likes teaching students nerdy weather topics and developing test score rubrics down to the quarter point. Most of all, he enjoys getting to know the Valpo MET student community as they find their path in this special place and beyond.

I’m proud of our students and leaders in AMS/NWA; they do all the work!
