Premed Club and Community Activities
Medical Mission Trip
Each spring break, students from
the college of nursing and premedical arts collaborate on an
international service learning trip to provide health care to underserved
children, families, and communities in Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
Students work various clinics mainly in small villages and have the
oppurtunity to truly immerse themselves in the culture as well as
experience healthcare in underserved areas.

Shadowing
Premed student Rachel Troester (on the right) shadowing. Something tells me she is enjoying the stethoscope and the white coat.
One of the Premed Club's favorite little guys enjoys his apple cider in style at the progressive dinner.
Students who meet specified requirements are allowed to shadow physicians in Porter Memorial Hospital. This program allows students to observe physicians in the work setting. Various areas include the following: obstetrics, urology, surgery, orthopedics, oncology, ophthalmology, emergency room, and pathology. The following links are avaliable to get you started:

What's In a Doctor's Bag
A skit that is based on a book written by a doctor. Performed by VU students for grade school children, this skit familiarizes children with the medical instruments they may encounter at a doctor’s office.

The Glow Germ Skit
This is one of Premed Club's favorite activities. A hand-washing program is presented to grade school children who love to see just how well (or how poorly) they wash their hands. Pre-Med students receive training through Porter Memorial Hospital and give demonstrations in local schools.

Movie / Game
Nights
Look forward to upcoming movie and game nights where
the Premed Club gets together to watch things like House, Scrubs, and Grey's
Anatomy, play some games, and enjoy hanging out with other premed
students. It is a great time to take a break from studying to
relax (and might I mention... food is usually involved).
Contact Hannah.Johnson@valpo.edu or Hashem.Rifai@valpo.edu if you have any ideas.
