What is a sorority?
A sorority is a multifaceted organization for university/college women. There are many different aspects to a sorority: scholarship, sisterhood, social activities, philanthropy work etc. It is a great way to meet new people and get involved on campus and it provides opportunities for scholarships. Every year, Tri Delta holds a huge charity event to raise money for children's cancer. Delta Delta Delta is an international sorority; this means that there are groups (chapters) all over the United States and Canada. Being involved in a sorority is a great way to enhance your university experience and build leadership skills.

What is Tri Delta all about?
Tri Delta is a group of women bound together by common principles, goals, and experiences. Membership in Tri Delta is more than just an affiliation. It's about laughter, tears, friendship, honor, loyalty, and love. It's about finding a place where you feel at home and forming the bonds if sisterhood that will last a lifetime!

What is pledging?
When you pledge yourself to Tri Delta, you enter a short period of learning about the history and membership expectations that form Tri Delta's core. At the end of this period, the symbolism and hidden meaning behind Tri Delta's ideals are revealed during initiation.

What are the benefits of joining Tri Delta?
As a member of Tri Delta, you'll enjoy many experiences with your sorority sisters. You'll attend formal, date dash, Homecoming, raft trip, and cruise. You'll have support in developing study skills and gaining academic achievement. Your exceptional successes might be recognized through scholarships, campus awards, and chapter acknowledgements. Leadership opportunities are endless. There are many positions within Tri Delta, from committee member to chapter president. Your sisters can also open many doors for you in campus involvement.

Tri Delta membership means friendships for a lifetime. After college, sisters are welcomed into alumnae organizations. Alumnae organizations include members of collegiate chapters from all over the country. Alumnae organizations continue the goals of promoting personal and professional development in a social atmosphere.

Tri Delta and sorority membership mean many things to many people. No other type of organization can offer a young woman so much during her college days and beyond. A perpetual bond of friendship... for a lifetime.

How long is the pledge period?
Our pledge period is six weeks, which lasts from the time you receive your bid until initiation into the Stars and Crescent Degree.

Does being a legacy guarantee me a spot in a sorority?
Contrary to popular myths, being a legacy does not guarantee that a potential new member will be offered membership in his/her family member's organization.

Can I go abroad or take a year off and still be a member?
Yes. We encourage all of our members to participate in exchange programs to enrich their academic experiences.

What types of social activities do Tri Deltas do?
The Gamma Upsilon Chapter of Delta Delta Delta offers a variety of different social avenues for its members, including events with fraternities and other campus organizations. We have a crush party, formals, and other co-ed events throughout the year. We also have dozens of sisterhood events both semesters such as our movie nights, picnics, trips to the Indiana Dunes, ice cream socials and more.

What kind of a time commitment is Tri Delta?
While we do have a series of mandatory events and meetings that all members must attend, Tri Delta is what you want it to be. Academics are your college priority; therefore, our members are offered generous flexibility to allow them to balance their academic, personal, and social lives with their commitment to the sorority. We also pride ourselves on our members' involvement in other on-campus activities. Tri Delta's sisters volunteer in student government, community service, and many other areas of interest.

Does Tri Delta haze?
NO! Hazing against National Tri Delta rules andit is also against Valparaiso University's Pan Hellenic policy and National Panhellenic policies. Tri Delta does not participate in nor condone any type of hazing; the trust and safety of our members is of utmost importance. Anti-Hazing policies are taken very seriously by our chapter, VU Panhellenic, and Tri Delta National.

Do you pay dues?
Yes, we pay dues; however, they are not unreasonable. We are students and understand about tight financial situations. Dues are paid each semester, which cover the costs for calendar activities you attend with the sorority (transportation, the activity, food etc. Dues also pay for awesome events like Formal (a ‘Prom’ like dinner and dance held annually), intramurals and sisterhood events.

It is important to note that Tri Delta Gamma Upsilon Chapter has a strict no assessing policy. This means that after dues and fees are paid, no member will be required to pay additional money. Formals, t-shirts, sponsor gifts are all included in your semester dues. Tri Delta also offers a number of financing options including payment plans and scholarships.

Are all Tri Deltas required to live on corridor?
Gamma Upsilon requires its memebers to live on its corridor in Scheele Hall. However, exceptions are made for members with senior standing or medical conditions that prevent them from living in Scheele Hall.
