I came, I saw, I did things.

My job for the last few weeks has been refreshingly different. I have taken advantage of the studio computer being repaired to clean out the catalog of productions in PSI. I went through and re-timed and remastered over half the sweepers, and added around 10 new ones, so when the on air studio goes back on air, there is going to be a lot of new sounds for the station.

One thing that I am really looking forward to is the installation of the new Prod room computer. Jared, the station engineer, is in the process of putting in a new, totally awesome computer that I cannot wait to start playing with.

I’m also excited to work with the new management staff. punks.

I you have any question or comments just let me know!

Daft punk’d

March 17th, 2009

Awesome title I know, but let’s focus.

Today I had my first office hours after spring break, and they went about according to plan. That is if the plan was that our printer wouldn’t cooperate with my every wish and the audio drivers on the prod room computer developed schizophrenia over the break.

I was trying to print the weekly prod room sign-up sheet for everyone to use, but with no avail, hopefully we work things out soon and there will be one up before the week has passed us by.

I had to fiddle with the audio drivers in Audition because I was recording things off of the internet, namely an entire Daft Punk sound board. I used these sounds in two new sweepers I made, with more to follow. I think I am going to begin more series of sweepers to keep things interesting. This series is called “SAT prep with daft punk”. There are two on rotation now, check ‘em out! (Notice my cool use of ” ‘ ” in place of “th”, by that logic I should be able to spell “father” as “fa’er” and “the” as ” ‘e”. we are ‘e source!)

I love the earth, more or less.

Today when I sat down for office hours in the prod room, I worked on an idea that I have been thinking of for a few weeks now. Daily tips for listeners that can help them do small and manageably things to help conserve their environment. I wanted to make these informative, but entertaining. Everyone has heard all of these tips before, but I wanted to present them in a way that might help get them so stick in people’s minds. For DJs, you will see these show up in a new Promo cart, ‘GPROMO’, in the next few days.

Let me know how what you think of these when they go on air,   I would love to hear what you think. Also, if you have any environmental tips you want people to be aware of, e-mail them to me!

Office Hours (Feb. 13)

February 12th, 2009

Today I didn’t a lot going on, but I did get a lot done. For that is the mystery of the dance.

Today I helped Allison and Jeff polish off their entry for the Source 95 bi-weekly rap competition, they did a great job.

After that I worked on perfecting the creation of autotune (a.k.a t-pain’s voice). I think it is almost a 100%. What I tried today was using multi-tap delay after manually correcting the pitch of the voice. I did instead of using just regular dynamic delay. The difference was both inspiring and destructive.

After that, I made a new sweeper, I’m sure you will all hear it eventually. the entire script was: “the source 95 is kings of leon *rapturous melody* On the source 95.” Sweepers are a lo of fun to make because they are short, and have laser noises.

If anyone is interested in voicing sweepers for the station so you don’t have to listen to my voice over and over and over again, please let me know! I am looking to get more voices on the sweeper rotation.

Office hours 2/10

February 10th, 2009

Todays offers hours were filled with ups and downs, positives and negatives, sharks and lemmings. Ok, maybe not but still, I had a lot of fun.

I made 2 new sweepers for the programming rotation; I voiced one of them, news director Allison voiced the other. With these sweepers I tried to continue with the image of the station, while adding fresh sounds to programming breaks. I hope people like them and give me feedback as to how I am doing.

After I produced these two sweepers, I worked on my entry for the Source 95 bi-weekly rap battle, and I had a lot of fun doing it! It was actually a lot more fun that I thought it would be, and I’m really looking forward to listening to all of the entries this friday.
