The Crusader men's basketball team have won seven out of their last nine with a 83-82 victory over the UIC Flames. The Crusaders and the Flames went back and forth throughout the game. Valpo hit big free throws down the stretch to seal the game. The Crusaders were led by Brandon Wood, the Horizon League's best scorer, who chimed in with 18 points. Ryan Broekhoff also had 18 points and pulled down a team-high 9 boards for the Brown and Gold.

Valpo wins 83-82 (13-13 overall, 8-6 Horizon)

The Crusader women's basketball team started the 2nd half of their Horizon League schedule with a home loss to Butler. Valpo and Butler played to 6 different 1st half ties before the Bulldogs took the advantage and led 30-25 at halftime. Coming out of the break, the Bulldogs exploded with a 16-4 run to put the contest out of reach and return to Indianapolis with a 66-52 victory. The Crusaders had another tough evening shooting the basketball, hitting only 31% of their field goal attempts and making just 5 3-pointers over the entire contest.

Valpo Thwarts Titans
Written by WVUR Sports
Saturday, 06 February 2010
The Crusader men's basketball team held off the determined Detroit Titans to take a 74-70 victory on the home hardwood. Valpo cruised through the 1st half to earn a 43-24 advantage heading in to halftime off dunks from Brandon Wood and Michael Rogers. Despite this large lead, the Titans, a solid 2nd half team, rattled off a 23-4 rally to tie the contest at 47 just 7 minutes into the 2nd half. The game was back-and-forth from there with a lot of aggression being shown on both sides. After a heated play under the Detroit basket, Valpo's Cory Johnson and Detroit's Eli Holman were both whistled for technical fouls. Once play settled down, the Crusaders found a way to keep the Titans back and escape with a win. Valpo ends the week at 7-6 in the Horizon League and 12-13 overall.

Crusaders Drop Home Contest to Raiders
Written by Chris Kleinhans-Schulz
Thursday, 04 February 2010

The Valparaiso men's basketball team suffered its second home defeat of the season with a 75-71 loss to Wright State. A 15-0 Raider run in the first half gave Wright State control for most of the game. Although Valpo rallied to take two different leads in the second half, it could not overcome its dismal 18% shooting from behind the arc and fell to their conference adversary. The Crusaders end the night with a 6-6 Horizon League record to sit in 6th place in the standings.
