Finding your voice can open your mind.
Sharing the joy of artistic expression brings people together, and the arts play a key role in Valpo’s close-knit community. On campus, in town, and in the nearby city of Chicago, students forge connections with each other and the wider world through the arts.
Learning With an Audience
Active academic programs in music, theatre, and art offer a busy schedule of performances and exhibitions. The Valparaiso University Center for the Arts, built in 1995, is a splendid facility with multiple performance spaces — and multiple opportunities for students to participate in artistic endeavors, both as artists and as audience. Outreach programs allow students to serve the nearby community through performance and teaching.

Hot Concerts
The Valpo calendar is chock-full of musical events, from hip-hop and indie-rock concerts organized by the undergraduate University Programming Council to jazz and classical music performed by Valpo’s talented music faculty and distinguished guests. Concerts draw crowds from around the region.
Arts From Abroad
Valpo’s innovative international programming includes events that introduce students to artistic traditions from around the world, including an international film series and an annual World Banquet co-sponsored by the Valparaiso International Student Association and the Office of International Programs.
Art of the Word
Valpo’s Wordfest is an annual series of readings, lectures, and discussions by practicing writers of poetry, drama, fiction, and nonfiction prose. Professional writers present their own creative works and stimulate students’ writing, often meeting classes, holding workshops, and conferring with interested student writers.
