Erin Kunert, Associate Director of Study Abroad
Erin oversees all Study Abroad operations and also serves as primary advisor for the Cambridge, Reutlingen, and Hangzhou Study Centers, German programs, and spring break & summer faculty-led programs. Prior to Valpo, she worked at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Center for International Education as their Study Abroad Financial Specialist. She worked primarily with day-to-day financial matters, but also helped guide students looking for funding for their study abroad programs and collaborated with the Financial Aid Office. She has a B.A. in German from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and an M.A. in languages, literature, and translation with an emphasis in German from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. During her undergraduate studies, she spent a semester abroad at the University of Kassel in Germany. She is fluent in German.
Marisa Henderson, Office Coordinator
Marisa Henderson serves as the Office Coordinator for the Office of International Programs. She helps students acquire international experience by facilitating semester-long Study Abroad programs while also aiding international students through International Student Services. In Study Abroad, Marisa serves as the primary advisor for programs in Spanish-speaking countries, French-speaking countries, the Anglia Ruskin Exchange, and our U.S. Affiliate programs that are not coordinated through CISabroad. As someone who highly values international exposure, she has had the opportunity to work for the General Consulate of Spain in Chicago and Illinois Legal Aid Online in Chicago as Spanish Coordinator. She also acquired experience in international education while serving as a mentor at the Purdue University Calumet Office of International Affairs. Previously, she spent a year teaching English in Île-de-France at Lycée Montesquieu. She has done study abroad in Japan and France. Having participated in a joint undergraduate research project with Jorge Roman-Lagunas, Marisa also had the opportunity to conduct a presentation for the Central American Literature Conference in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, on magic realism and Miguel Angel Asturias. Marisa obtained her B.A. in Spanish and political Science, as well a minor in French, from Purdue University Calumet. She is fluent in Spanish and French with beginner N5 certification in Japanese.
Nicole Hughes, IEP Study Abroad Advisor
Nicole is the IEP Study Abroad advisor on campus. She encourages Valpo students to study, intern, or volunteer abroad through planning outreach events and developing marketing materials/strategies. She advises students on all CISabroad programs. Nicole graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a B.A. in international relations and Spanish. During her junior year, she studied abroad in Granada, Spain. Upon graduation, she returned to Spain to teach English in a public high school. During this time, she was able to travel extensively throughout Spain and many other countries. Two of her favorite destinations include Hungary and Morocco. Nicole is excited to share her passion for education abroad with students!
