Exchange Agreement
Anglia Ruskin University, England
Who?
You must be a junior or senior in good standing.
You must have at least a 3.0 GPA.
This academically-demanding program is designed for students who are independent, self-motivated, and who are interested in a direct-enrollment experience at a British University. Almost all students can study abroad at Anglia-Ruskin without delaying graduation IF they plan carefully with their academic advisor.
What?
One semester or a full year of study as an exchange student at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, England.
A variety of course offerings are available, at two different levels: the 1 level, for general studies, and the 2 & 3 level, for classes in your major. Areas of study are similar to those offered at VU, and may include: Art, English, Social Sciences, Languages, Business, Law, Computer Science, and Natural and Physical Sciences, among others. Program participants are directly enrolled at Anglia Ruskin, and attend classes with British students. Former students have found the classes to be very challenging.
Where?
An old, medieval market town and the seat of one of Europe's most prestigious universities, Cambridge provides a perfect setting in which to experience British culture and academic tradition. As one of England's major cities, Cambridge is filled with attractive shops, museums, restaurants, and pubs, and is also known for its fine architecture and beautiful parks. London is only a one-hour train ride to the south.
Students generally live in Anglia Ruskin’s student residences, or make other off-campus living arrangements (for example, with the YMCA). Space-permitting, participants in the program may live in VU’s Cambridge Program housing facilities, with bedrooms, sitting rooms, study areas, a kitchen, and other facilities.
How?
You must apply for the program through the International Studies Office. The ISO is located in Meier Hall 137, phone 464-5333.
You should consult with your academic advisor and the ISO as early as possible. Freshman year is not too early to begin your inquiries about study abroad. Careful planning will ensure your classes taken at Anglia Ruskin will be used for graduation requirements.
How Much?
Air fare: Students can expect to spend $1000.00 - $1200.00 round-trip between Chicago and London. Many of the discount flights described in newspapers are not useful for a semester abroad, because they are only for short-term stays.
Tuition, Room, and General Fee: Students pay the same tuition and general fee they would pay in Valparaiso. Room and board costs will be paid at Anglia Ruskin. All VU study abroad programs are considered "in-residence," so all financial aid (except work-study and some ‘on-campus’ aid) applies.
Spending Money: The exact amount will differ depending on individual preferences and exchange rates, but generally you can expect to spend $4500.00 - $5500.00. If you choose to purchase a Eurail Pass, you can expect to pay an additional $291.00 - $696.00. The Britrail Pass is usually priced in the $199.00 - $529.00 range.
