Message from the Director

As the Director of International Studies, I am pleased to welcome you to the 13 study-abroad opportunities offered by Valparaiso University. I am sure that you will find one or more of our programs on four continents especially attractive. As Valparaiso University regularly offers short-term opportunities abroad during spring break or in the summer, you have the option of a short stay abroad or a semester or full-year program. Recently, Valpo students have enjoyed two to six-week overseas learning experiences in China and Germany. With help from the staff in the International Studies Office, you are likely to find the program which best fits your interests. And, rest assured that if you discuss your plans carefully with your academic advisor from day one, you should be able to enjoy a study-abroad experience without extending your stay at Valparaiso University.

Studying abroad will prepare you to become a citizen of the world, and this is more important today than ever before. I invite you to take advantage of at least one of our study-abroad opportunities and join the thousands of other Valparaiso University students who have had truly life-altering experiences in various parts of the world since 1968. For a glimpse of what your study-abroad might involve, read the feature found at www.valpo.edu/oia/valpo_su01/magazine.html. Please don’t hesitate to send me an e-mail me at Hugh.McGuigan@valpo.edu if you have questions about study-abroad.
