Julie Maddox, Director of Study Abroad Programs
Julie manages Valpo's Study Centers in England, Germany, China and Costa Rica and coordinates various exchange, third-party provider and faculty-led, short-term programs world-wide. Prior to Valpo, she worked at the Illinois Institute of Technology's International Center advising both international students and study abroad participants. She earned a B.A. in French and International Economics & Cultural Affairs and an M.S. in International Commerce & Policy from Valparaiso University. While a student at Valpo, she studied and interned abroad in France, Germany, Poland and China. In high school, she participated in a French language immersion program through Indiana University's Honors Program in Foreign Languages.
Erasmo Mendez, Study Abroad Advisor
Erasmo collaborates with faculty to internationalize curriculum to include study abroad. He manages enrollments of participants who go abroad as well as providing pre-departure and re-entry advising for students. In an effort to promote abroad opportunities, he assists with outreach efforts on-campus such as classroom visits, information sessions, and information tables. Erasmo studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 2008-2009. During his undergrad career, he was a volunteer with Public Health Brigades Honduras in 2010 and 2011 and participated in alternative break public health projects in underprivileged communities outside of the capital city Tegucigalpa. Erasmo later worked for the same non-profit organization, Global Brigades USA, as a coordinator for the Medical program based in Panama from 2011-2012. Erasmo earned B.A. in International Studies and a B.A. in Spanish from University of California Irvine. He also earned an M.A. in International Education and Training from American University in Washington, DC.
Calin Florek, Study Abroad Office Assistant
Calie is a full-time Global MBA student here at Valpo and is working as a part-time staff member in the Office of International Programs as the Study Abroad Office Assistant. She helps advise students on where they can study abroad, runs pre-departure orientation, and helps organize the Study Abroad Peer Advisor group. Calie is a a Valparaiso University graduate with a degree in Communications and minors in German & Gender Studies. She studied abroad at VU's Study Center in Reutlingen, Germany, and also spent the last year working at Reutlingen University's International Office. During her time there, she traveled to ten countries outside of Germany.
