MBA Program
Valpo’s Master of Business Administration degree is an innovative program responding to today’s business needs. We believe today’s global market is best served by capable, ethical, successful business leaders who positively impact their environment. Our MBA gives you a solid foundation in core business functions while also building:
- strong interpersonal skills
- technological savvy
- an understanding of today’s complex business landscape
- a commitment to values-based decision making
The Princeton Review's Best 143 Business Schools ranked Valpo MBA one of the five best-administered programs in the nation.
Values-based leadership
Why an emphasis on values-based leadership? Values-based leadership has always been a critical attribute of successful business leaders; but, in the wake of recent high-profile corporate scandals, ethical leadership is required to earn back public trust. Additionally, radical market restructuring and the rapid rise – and decline – of new firms and entire industries demand leaders with a solid ethical framework. As a leader, your personal moral compass will increasingly be the primary measure by which values-based decisions are made.
Environmental stewardship
A focus on environmental leadership is also woven throughout our program. Often the most effective and efficient decisions are those that include environmental issues from the beginning – whether managing supply chains, factoring the net-present-value of financial decisions, motivating employees, or minimizing risk exposure. The most profitable and ethical decisions are often those that include the wise use and conservation of environmental resources. A Valpo MBA prepares you for this type of critical decision-making.

Program
The Valpo MBA is designed for students with a variety of academic backgrounds. Graduation requirements range from 38 to 52 credits depending on the number of courses you will need to complete the degree. Students take courses in three main categories:
Foundation Courses – 500 level (14 credits)
These graduate-level courses build the foundation for the program and are designed for students without corresponding undergraduate work or for those whose business coursework is not current.
Core Courses – 600 level (26 credits)
These courses form the common base of the MBA and are taken by everyone in the program. The core includes advanced courses in business disciplines in three broad areas:
- values-based leadership
- analytical decision making
- strategic leadership
Enhancement Courses – 700 level (12 credits)
These courses allow you to customize your MBA degree to fit your interests and career goals. A broad selection of courses is taught on a rotating basis including “hot topics” addressing current business trends.
Accounting Specialization
An MBA with this specialization coupled with a 125-hour undergraduate accounting degree satisfies the requirements for taking the Certified Public Accounting exam in most states.
Joint Juris Doctor-MBA
This joint degree program, offered in conjunction with the Valparaiso University School of Law, allows students to complete both degrees in four years.
