According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year, the total healthcare costs for smoking-related illnesses costs Hoosiers $2.08 billion. Everyone shares these expenses, which add up to more than $566 for each and every Hoosier household, whether or not they smoke.

Indiana is one of only 11 states remaining that do not have a statewide smoke free air law. We are asking our legislators to pass a comprehensive smoke free air policy for Indiana.  Please come meet your legislators and find out more about their views on tobacco control programs, and let your voice be heard. We look forward to seeing you on February 17th.

SMOKEFREE CHESTERTON CONCERNED CITIZENS

The Smokefree Chesterton Clean Air committee meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at the Duneland Boys & Girls Clubs. We are working to enact a comprehensive smoke free air ordinance for all workplaces in the town of Chesterton. Your support is vital to the passage of such a policy.   DATE:  Thursday, February 16; March 15; April 19; May 17; and June 21 TIME:   6:00 p.m. PLACE:  Duneland Boys & Girls Club (135 Lincoln Ave, Chesterton)

Ongoing Calendar Events:

Tobacco Prevention & Cessation Coalition monthly monthly meetings:
Monthly meetings are on the 2nd Tuesday of the month @ 8:30 AM -  Meetings are held at Ivy Tech (Valparaiso Campus) in the Executive Conference Room. Meeting dates are February 14; March 13; April 10; May 8; June 12; July10; September 11; October 9; November 13; and December11. Meetings are open to the public.

Executive Committee meetings:
The Executive Committee meets on the 1st Thursday of each month @ 9 AM (Valparaiso University College of Nursing).

Cessation Support Groups 
Porter Hospital has a support gorup every Thursday @ 6 pm in the Guild room (lower level) at Porter Hospital, Valparaiso Campus. This group is for associates and those in the community who want to quit tobacco use. For more information, call 219-263-4671 (please call to register if you plan to attend)
