Dear Alum,

Greetings from your alma mater!  Homecoming weekend will soon be upon us and I wanted to extend to you my annual invitation to join your classmates in attending some special theatre events that have been planned!

Of course, the centerpiece event will be the performances of our mainstage production of Fuddy MeersFuddy Meers centers on main character Claire, who suffers from a form of psychogenic amnesia that erases her memory every night when she goes to sleep.  Claire meets a colorful cast of  characters on her journey, such as a furtive limping, lisping, half-deaf man in a ski mask who kidnaps Claire, Claire’s highly cynical teenage son, Claire’s mother who only speaks gibberish as a result of a stroke, an ex-convict with a foulmouthed puppet, and a very intense woman who may or may not be a cop.  Every twist and turn in this funhouse plot brings Claire closer to revealing her past life and everything she thought she’d forgotten.  Fuddy Meers is a harrowing and hilarious roller coaster ride through the day of an amnesiac attempting to decipher her fractured life. Performances are scheduled prior to and throughout the Homecoming weekend: Wednesday through Friday, October 7-9 at 8 p.m., Saturday, October 10 at 2 p.m., and Sunday, October 11 at 2 p.m.  Call the box office at 219-464-5162 to reserve your seats.  Mention that you are VU alum and receive your ticket at a special Homecoming price of $10 per ticket (seating is limited).  In addition, we will be having our traditional Homecoming reception following the Saturday matinee.  Please join me and my theatre colleagues, Ann Kessler, Andy White, and Alan Stalmah to share stories and catch up over our fabled VUCA lobby punch and cookies.  Later Saturday evening at 10 p.m., Alpha Psi Omega hosts its annual Shakespeare Under the Stars on the South Lawn of the Chapel, providing yet another opportunity to celebrate the talents of Valpo’s current cohort of theatre students.

On behalf of your Valparaiso family, I sincerely hope you will be able to join us this year and I look forward to seeing you at one of our events.
