Friends of Jazz

Valparaiso University Jazz FestIn the early 1990’s, Mr. Dick Beach approached Jeff Brown with a vision and a new idea. With assistance from Mr. Herb Douglas, the three established the Valparaiso University Friends of Jazz. Since that time, this group has grown to approximately 100 members.

Today the many members carry out that vision by continually helping to make Jazz Fest better. Through committed individuals, organizations and businesses, we are able to bring the highest quality jazz performers to Northwest Indiana, as well as preserve America’s only true indigenous musical art form. This year’s Jazz Fest is one of the most exciting we have ever presented at VU. It is with continued support from the Friends of Jazz and our generous sponsors that we have been able to experience continuous growth and present artists such as The Arturo Sandoval Orchestra and Count Basie Orchestra. The most unique aspect of Jazz Fest is the inclusion of NWI High School and Middle School jazz ensembles. This is one of the only non-competitive festivals in the Indiana-Illinois area. Over 300 students and parents will visit the campus during the two days of Jazz Fest. We feel proud to be able to offer schools this opportunity, as this might be one of the only chances where these students have an opportunity to perform on a University campus.

We welcome new members all the time, and we hope we can include you among this committed group of music lovers in the future. If you would like to become a member of Friends of Jazz, please email Harre.Union@valpo.edu with the following information:
