Julie Brandy

Adjunct Assistant Professor of Nursing

Julie Brandy not only teaches, she practices, and she brings her students into that experience.

Brandy, adjunct assistant professor of nursing at Valparaiso University and nurse practitioner at Valpo's Student Health Center, is one of a growing number of College of Nursing faculty members who have their own practices.

Others include Elise Alverson, lecturer in nursing, and Amy Cory, adjunct assistant professor of nursing, who are active nurse practitioners at Hilltop Community Health Center, and Julie Koch, adjunct assistant professor of nursing, who practices at a medical firm.

“Being able to maintain my clinical practice allows me to keep up to date on the most current changes in health care,” Brandy says. “I can then bring this information into the classroom to provide my students with knowledge they will need to practice in our ever-changing world.”

Graduate students often serve with Brandy at the health center as part of their clinical instruction.

“I have worked with students on projects such as the development of evidence-based practice guidelines in the care of college students,” Brandy says. “Projects like these benefit the student working on the project and the students who come to the health center for care. My position also allows me to work with our graduate students in the development of their skills in hands-on patient care as advanced practice nurses.”
