Without a doubt, classroom discussion is the most exciting and thrilling part of the Core. Rather than sitting in class and listening to a lecture, students and teachers get to discuss, argue, compliment, and question ideas from the texts. Every class, students' experiences are drawn on to think about some of the most important questions we face--who we are, what finally and completely matters, why we are being educated. Rather than trying to find quick and easy answers, however, we ask questions. In fact, we seem to be searching not for answers, but for the right questions to ask. Since so much of high school education seems bent on controlling information, Core is about the opening up of ideas, not closing them down.
