Host of Special Activities Planned for Valpo’s 150th Anniversary

150th Anniversary

Valparaiso University will celebrate its 150th anniversary (1859-2009) with a variety of special events, beginning this August through May 2009:

  • Aug. 31, campus kick-off celebration.
  • September through April 2009, 15 re­gional celebrations across the country. (See Page 26 in the VALPO magazine for more information.)
  • Oct. 11, Homecoming concert.
  • Oct. 17-18, inaugura­tion of President-elect Mark Heckler as the 18th presi­dent of Valpo.
  • Fall ’08 and Spring ’09, Christ College Symposium Series.
  • Dec. 20, men’s basketball game against the University of North Carolina at the United Center in Chicago.
  • Jan. 30-31, 2009, dedication of the new campus union.
  • Feb. 7, 2009, College of Nursing cele­brates its 40th anniversary at the School of Art Institute in Chicago.
  • Feb. 12, 2009, Albert G. Huegli Lecture on church-related higher education.
  • February 2009, Hall of Fame Reunion.
  • May 2, 2009, sesquicentennial gala at the Field Museum in Chicago.

Anniversary VALPO Magazine and Calendar Mailed in August

To commemorate Valparaiso Univer­sity’s 150th anniversary, the Office of Communications within the Office of Institutional Advancement this August will publish a special keepsake edition of VALPO magazine, accompanied by a 2009 calendar with past and present photographs of campus.

The magazine and calendar high­­light the people, places and events that shaped the university from its inception in 1859 to the present.
