Valpo Bans Smoking on Campus
Effective July 1, Valparaiso University will prohibit smoking and the use of tobacco products on campus.
The new policy was developed to reduce the health risks created by secondhand smoke and comply with an ordinance adopted by the city of Valparaiso regarding smoking in public places.
Currently, smoking is permitted on campus at more than 20 outdoor locations identified by stone-like receptacles, as well as in personal vehicles. Designated smoking areas recently were moved farther away from buildings in order to support a healthy environment for members of the campus community and visitors.
Information about smoking cessation programs is being made available to members of the campus community who wish to quit smoking.
