Following are works by noted photographer Stephen Marc that were featured in “Walking in the Footsteps: Visual Interpretations of African American History,” displayed in the Chapel of the Resurrection as part of Valparaiso University’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.

Marc, an art professor at Arizona State University, has received critical acclaim for his powerful photographic montages that explore the African Diaspora. During the past four years, he has examined North America’s Underground Railroad, taking more than 30,000 photographs of people and places in 21 states and Canada.

“Walking in the Footsteps” combines family snapshots, antique photographs and Marc’s own photographs to explore both his personal story and the story of African American culture.
