FLOOR & WALL

We drove off the end of the world
after a long and quiet hesitation.
With no place left to disappear,
the car sank into the lake.

After a long and quiet hesitation
a horse laid down in its field.
The car sank into the lake,
warm and moving, cold and still.

A horse laid down in its field,
its slowly blinding round eye watching.
Warm and moving, cold and still,
we have all looked up at the moon,

its slowly blinding round eye watching.
A turtle crawled into the road.
We have all looked up at the moon
or down to the moon on the water.

A turtle crawled into the road,
in the woods where the dog waits,
down to the moon on the water,
weighing the virtues of each small future.

In the woods where the dog waits
circling the base of the tree,
weighing the virtues of each small future.
Tired, hungry, alive and alone, it is

circling the base of the tree.
With no place left to disappear,
weighing the virtues of each small future,
we drove off the end of the world.
