A Message From Chief Becky Walkowiak

I sincerely hope that you take a few minutes to peruse the information that we have gathered. I believe that once you have an opportunity to do so you will see that we are an extremely well trained, well equipped full service Police Department who works on the Valparaiso University campus to provide the safest possible environment for our students, faculty, and staff. You will find that University Police Department personnel patrol our campus by automobile, four-wheel drive vehicles for inclement weather, bicycle, and foot patrols. We have numerous emergency telephones strategically located about the campus that ring directly to the Police Department.

We take great pride in our transportation service which has its own dispatch center utilizing two transportation vans that transport approximately 25,000 people per year on and about the V.U. campus. A member of the University Police Department supervises this proactive service. The service is comprised of three adult drivers and student aide dispatchers. They provide our students with an alternative to walking alone during the evening hours from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., 7 days a week during the academic year. This particular service is widely recognized as one of the strongest pro-active programs enhancing student safety on the V.U. campus. In reviewing the campus crime statistical data in our site, it is apparent that the pro-active approach Valparaiso University takes is working.
